frequently asked questions
WHAT TYPE OF THERAPY DO YOU PROVIDE?
I provide psychotherapy and 'non-touch' sex therapy to individuals, couples and moresomes using an eclectic blend of cognitive-behavioral, humanistic, existential, attachment and mindfulness-based theories. I enjoy working with people who have diverse backgrounds and life journeys. My focus in relationship work addresses intimacy, trust, communication, conflict resolution, sex life, personality styles and alternative relationships/ lifestyles, and individual work, addresses themes of personal meaning, stress management, emotional pain, self-defeating patterns, healthy boundaries, sexual orientation, gender identity, alternative lifestyles and relationship with self.
HOW OFTEN AND LONG DOES COUNSELING GENERALLY LAST?
Every person or couple's needs are different, but generally therapy lasts from 3-9 months; it depends on the nature and severity of the issues you need to address. I have found that weekly sessions are ideal, as the flow between sessions is optimal for meeting your needs, but we can create a schedule that works for you. At the point you feel your goals have been addressed, we'll meet monthly for a couple of times as we wrap-up our work together. Once we've terminated therapy, the door is always open for mental health 'tune-ups'.
WHAT'S THE PROCESS FOR GETTING STARTED IN THERAPY?
First, give me a call at 720.412.9648 or email me at email@example.com. Over the phone, we'll discuss what you (and your partner) are looking for in counseling to see if I'm a good fit for your needs.
Next, we'll schedule an initial intake session where I can hear your story and learn more about your background- some of the people, places and events that have brought you to today. I will email you the necessary documents to fill out and bring with you- If you're unable to print them from a computer, you can arrive 15 minutes early in my waiting room to fill them out there. During the intake session, we'll review the policies of my practice, then get started on creating your therapy goals.
WHAT ARE YOUR RATES? DO YOU TAKE INSURANCE?
My current rate is $150 per 50-minute individual session and $230 per 80-minute individual/couples session. I accept payments in cash, check, credit card, or FSA/HSA (flexible or health spending account) debit cards at the beginning of each session. I am not currently taking new insurance clients. I can provide a monthly statement of services for you to submit to your insurance company as an out-of-network provider. Please check with your insurance company for possible availability of out-of-network benefits.
It is my policy to receive a cancellation notice of at least 48 hours in advance.
WHAT DOES 'NOS' STAND FOR IN YOUR NAME, N.O.S. COUNSELING, LLC?
NOS stands for "not otherwise specified," a term used in the psychology field to describe individuals that don't fully fit criteria defining a specific mental health diagnosis. The acronym, used in my private practice name, daily reminds me that we are more than 'labels' that may be used to define us. In reality, we are all unique, with differing life stories, dreams, personalities, and goals. I support each person or relationship that walks through my door, by honoring their need to heal their emotional pain and move forward in new directions.
