Alternative Relationship Therapy

Whether you're exploring ethical non-monogamy, polyamory, open relationships, or another relationship structure, therapy shouldn't begin with defending your identity or your relationship. It should begin with understanding you, your relationships, and the life you're trying to build.

Relationships don't have to look one way to be healthy

Therapy can be a place to consider what you want your relationships to look like—not because something is wrong, but because you're seeking to create relationships that reflect your own desires or values rather than simply following the expectations of the traditional "relationship escalator."

Relationships outside the mainstream often invite conversations that don't have simple answers. You may be exploring consensual non-monogamy, considering opening your relationship, practicing kink or power exchange, or creating a relationship that doesn't follow conventional expectations. Rather than relying on cultural scripts, you're figuring out what works for you.

That can raise questions about communication, boundaries, jealousy, trust, consent, identity, and intimacy. It may also mean navigating conversations with partners, family, or friends who don't understand your choices. Sometimes you're facing a specific challenge; other times you're simply looking for a place to think through decisions with intention.

People choose ethical non-monogamy for many different reasons. For some, it reflects a long-held belief that love and commitment don't have to be limited to one relationship. Others value the freedom to explore different forms of intimacy while maintaining a deeply committed partnership. Some are drawn to the possibility of experiencing compersion—finding joy in a partner's happiness and connections with others. Others discover that ethical non-monogamy better reflects their values or become curious about whether another relationship structure feels more authentic.

What people often discover in therapy

Many people arrive wondering if anyone else asks the same questions they do. One of the first things they discover is that they're not alone.

As therapy unfolds, the focus often shifts from finding the "right" answers to asking different questions:

  • How much do we trust each other—and what's getting in the way?

  • Can we talk honestly about what we want, need, or don't want in our relationship?

  • What changes when we feel safe enough to be honest with each other?

People are often surprised to discover that jealousy, insecurity, and uncertainty aren't signs that something is wrong.  On the contrary, it's quite common and almost expected to experience these things in any form of ethical monogamy. They're experiences that can be understood, talked about, and navigated together.

You don't have to have all the answers before you come to therapy

Some people come to therapy knowing exactly what they want. Others aren't sure whether non-monogamy is right for them, whether they want to explore kink, or how to make sense of desires that don't fit the script they grew up with.

You don't have to arrive with certainty.

Therapy can be a place to slow down, ask meaningful questions, and make sense of your experiences. Together, we'll create space for reflection so you can make choices that align with your values and the relationships you want to build.

My approach

I believe therapy is most helpful when people feel understood before they feel challenged.

My role isn't to tell you what your relationships should look like or whether your identity fits someone else's definition of "normal." Together, we'll explore what's working, what's getting in the way, and how to build relationships that feel honest, connected, and sustainable.

Whether we're talking about communication, intimacy, jealousy, trust, attachment, or life transitions, my goal is to help you better understand yourself and the people you love—not to pathologize who you are.
